The seventh grade Lady Apaches got off to a poor start as they fell down early, 0-23 in the first quarter before going into halftime down 0-33. A better performance came in the second half as the Lady Apaches were only outscored 7-10.
“The team struggled,” head coach Kaelin Shuck said. “Kiyana stood out and played pretty well. We need to improve our passing and shooting. Dodge City Comanche is coming up and we need to play as a team, communicate, work hard, and continue to improve each game.”
The eighth grade Lady Apaches fell behind early as well, 4-12. A scoreless second quarter left the Lady Apaches with a 4-22 halftime deficit. Only three points came in the second half as Guymon added 20.
Being down two starters, the girls did what they could do with what we had out there,” eighth grade head coach Patience Blanc said. “Everyone hustled, everyone played hard, there’s just little stuff we have to work on, passing, shooting, all of those things. Jada (Harvey) stood out, playing out of her usual role bring the ball up, she played pretty much the whole game. We need to be more confident and trust one another. Dodge is coming up, that should be a good game, we’re pretty evenly matched. We have to remember to never give up, and to continue working hard.”
The seventh grade falls to 0-7, and the eighth grade falls to 1-6. The seventh and eighth grade Lady Apaches will take on Dodge City Comanche this evening at Seymour Rogers Middle School. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
